By Gary Young

Houseplants is the name used to refer to indoor plants. These are special types of plants with the capability of surviving in the indoor environment. Therefore, these plants are usually grown in apartments, offices, homes and also at times inside motor vehicles. The popularity of these plants is continuously increasing. Research has shown that there are various benefits that these houseplants present. When in search of Office plants Miami should be given priority.

Most people who have these plants in their indoor spaces aim to use them as items of decoration. That means that they are placed in a central place within the space where they can act as a center of attention. Choosing houseplants for the purposes of decoration needs to be done very carefully. The leaves and flowers must be beautiful, and where necessary, complement the decor and theme in the house.

Houseplants are available in a range of sizes. One should choose the right size when decorating. In choosing the houseplant, one factor to consider should be the room size of the space under decoration. Small houseplants that take up minimum space are best advised for use in small rooms.

On the other hand, installation of very small houseplants in big rooms generates a minor effect. This means it is difficult to notice the houseplant, specifically when larger furnishings are installed around it. It is also very important to consider the position of the plant. When they are placed at the center of the room on a table, they become more visible. They can also be placed on windowsills.

Pots are normally used to plant these houseplants. Prior to planting, the pot must be packed with enough amount of soil first. For the houseplant to acquire adequate nutrients and grow properly, it is essential for the soil to be adequately fertile. Where necessary, fertilizers may be used to supplement nutrients in the soil. The plant type under question should determine how much fertilization takes place.

Besides fertilizer and soil fertility, another important factor that one needs to consider is the size of the pot that is used for planting. Usually, small plants need small pots while large ones need large pots. Planting a small houseplant into a big pot usually cause root disease. Root disease occurs because there is too much moisture retained by soil in the big pot.

On the contrary, growth related problems also occur when small pots are used for planting of large houseplants. Among the consequences of this include insufficient air, soil nutrients, and moisture, resulting into retarded growth. Generally, based on the plant species, a plant should be left in the same pot for 2-3 years after which it should be transplanted into a bigger pot.

There are different ways of classifying pots. However, the two main classifications are porous and non-porous pots. Of the two types of pots, porous pots are the most recommended. This is because they have small pores that allow for gaseous exchange between the soil and the atmosphere. Proper aeration is vital to proper plant growth.
