Harrison Hot Springs Community In A Nutshell

By Rosella Campbell

Devastation of former natural bucolic environments has been as a result of rapid growth of urbanization. The Harrison Hot Springs Community has been able to stand this challenge and it is capable of offering a rustic touch that is free from overcrowding and a beautiful panorama that is all natural. Here, we take a brief tour through the life of this town.

This small community has been in existence acting as a resort village for a time period beginning about 1886. The hoteliers exploited this place and it was incorporated on the year 1949. The hot springs, which are also its namesake, acts as the main tourist attraction drawing people to relish themselves in the village spa resort. A series of hot springs characterizes the village and the content of sulfur goes on decreasing as you move northwards.

It has been noted by some geologists that there is an unstable rock above the northern end of the large fresh water Harrison Lake. The rock is predicted to collapse in the lake and generate a very big wave that might cause destruction on the Harrison Hot Springs town which is located at the south end. The time for this is unknown but definitely not in near future and geological activities at the long run may rectify this.

The population at this village has been growing steadily over the recent couple of years. The major economic activity is tourism which results from the springs. More than half the working population find employment in the service industries with the rest being divided in government, manufacturing, retail and construction in addition to minor activities in other fields. Apart from the natural hot water jets, there are no manufacturing industries on the lake.

In the year of 1949, the community corporation was incorporated to a municipality through an initiative of Colonel Andy Naismith. The community gets presided over by a mayor together with four other councilors. It acts also as part of the Chilliwak-Hope provincial electoral district. It is represented by the Canada House of Commons at its federal level.

Its closeness in proximity to Vancouver and Seattle enables Harrison Community to be the most ideal retreat throughout the year. There are numerous myriads at disposal and they vary from rock climbing, boating and fishing, exploration and skiing in this part of the rural countryside. Other than that, some few places boast of about four golf courses located only about fifteen minutes drive.

The resorts in this town are furnished with fine rooms and comfy beds and the pools which are hot are more fantastic. Their staffs are highly professional and friendly and they are always ready to help you in maneuvering about. They have very sumptuous meals which are worth their cost. The surrounding landscapes and gardens offer very beautiful panoramas to this town.

Make sure you have an escape to this traditional setting for a vacation and you will definitely find calm, relaxing and yet an exciting holiday. You can tag along with some of your friends so as to enhance fun through camping, skiing and exploration among other exhilarating activities.
