Picking A Major That's Right For You

By Hedrick Lepsch

It takes more than shiny apples on professors' desk to impress them. The easiest way to impress professors is to get to know them. If you do not attempt to get to know your professors as individuals you will never know what traits they esteem more than others in their students.

To be consigned to a sad existence with no hope of moving upward or ever enjoying the true fruits of our labor would be a living nightmare. Socialistic innovations occurred with great writers who explored the world of the commons. Dickens and Victor Hugo were great examples of this.

You need to introduce yourself to your professors after your first class with them. They may not remember your name the first time around, but by introducing yourself you show that you care. All professors want students to care about the subject they are teaching-that is a bankable fact. If you take the initiative to show you care on the first day, professors are more likely to show they care for you in return.

While what he did was unheard of at the time, Henry Ford considered it one of his greatest, cost efficient moves as president of the company. It is interesting to think of increased wages and decreased time at work being efficient but it was.

Also when considering a major it is not just enough love what you do, and want to have a big paycheck, your major should match your strengths. If you are good at math and music, surprisingly enough you may also be good a computers. So it would be logical to take a few classes in computer programing or computer science to test your aptitude in those fields.

Basically the more you engage with your professors inside and outside of the class the more likely they are to remember you, listen to you and help you with your coursework. Hopefully by the end of the semester because of this constant interaction you will not only passed the class with flying colors but you will have fostered a mentoring relationship with your professor.

Because of the time an effort you have spent fostering this relationship, you now have a mentor is your career field that can help you navigate and network with industry contacts when it comes time to find a job. Although your professor may teach at a university and at times they can seem out of touch with the real world, you will be amazed at the people they know and the contacts they can help you make.

Human resource staff strive to maintain a professional environment where workers can gain knowledge and experience that propel them forward. It also puts on a face for the company as a whole. One of the most vital things to do in HR is understand and follow the company policies and procedures. This is what all of the employees are watching and it adds more stress to the job. If Charles Dicken's could see our work place today I can imagine him smiling and feeling proud of what has happened since his time.
