Benefits Of Wool Batts During Home Construction

By Mia Kent

Wool batts are mechanically made by bonding five to fifteen percent of recycled polyester adhesive together with the sheep fiber. It is made solely from the sheep fiber because it is a natural insulator and due to its crimping nature which traps the air in multitudes of air pockets. These batts are then commonly used as insulation rolls for lofts and homes with timber frames.

With no negative effects whatsoever on the environment or health of humans, due to polyester being used to stick the sheep fiber together with a mechanical process. It is a very positive replacement to the conventional fibers that contained glues which set off hazardous fumes and chemicals. Although it is becoming increasingly popular in the United States of America, it is mostly used in Australia, Canada and European countries.

Yet another environmental advantage of using this form of insulation is that it can be composted entirely at the end of its use. More organizations and governments are forcing the building industry to search for environmentally friendly sources of materials. This fits right in due to it being an entirely natural source.

When focusing on the dimensions of the rolls, they come in two to four inch thickness and sixteen to twenty four inch widths. The length can be provided in custom sizes by the manufactures, but are most commonly sold in thirteen to twenty four feet. If one buys the standardized rolls, it can be cut with ease while working on the construction site.

Choosing the thickness will greatly depend on the climate of the area in which the home is built. Wet or humid climates mean the material needs ultimate thickness. It gives more reason for choosing this insulation because of its availability in various widths. It then directly protects the home structure against any forms of water damage.

Furthermore, it is also corrosion resistant, which means although it absorbs water and moisture, it will not damage metal and wood structures of the frame of the home. It will also not set off bad smells from prolonged moisture unless a serious water leakage is not detected in due time. Under normal conditions, it can last the entire duration of a house life cycle.

Its installation is pretty effortless. One does not require protective gloves as the material is soft, it cuts with ease and it sets off no harmful gasses during the process. It is also very compatible with any area ranging from walls, floors and roofs. It can be set in place using industrial staple guns or simply cutting it a few inches bigger than the area to keep it together with friction.

People who choose to buy wool batts need to read the product information carefully. It is essential that they only purchase from manufactures that ensure that treatment against insects was done to the final product. If they do not take this precaution, they stand the risk of the wooden structures of the home being infected with insects that can destroy it in a matter of months.
