SEO With SEO Helpful Tips

By Alex Blaken

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) refers to the techniques for increasing Internet search traffic. There are a lot of techniques to use, many are easier than others. To give a brief introduction to what SEO is, it is basically increasing presence on search engines which should send you more traffic. The goal for all SEO is to get your website to appear as number one for searches.

A great first step is to make sure your blog is SEO optimized correctly. Make sure to use appropriate meta keys and descriptions so search engines can spider your website correctly. This only needs to be done once, once it has been set up you do not have to do it again. Whatever your blog or website is about make sure your title, keywords and description all relate and target your area of interest. The meta description and title will also be shown in search results so make sure it is relevant and correct.

Furthermore, make sure you write good, unique content. Copy and pasting your content from other sources will get you penalized by search engines. Search engines are now highly developed and clever at offering users relevant content.

Building links is the next step once you have optimized your website correctly. The number of inbound links your website has is how search engines determine how good your website is. If your website has more links than another one, search engines will rank your website higher. If you write content that is keyword driven then this happens naturally but it can be a long process. To speed it up you can try some of the following techniques.

Firstly, write original content and submit it to article directories. Sometimes you may find it difficult for your articles to be accepted because they get reviewed by reviewers. But, for every article that gets accepted, you will also get a couple of links back to your website. Search engines really like this. You may see SEO as a game - trying to get quality links from quality websites.

You can also manually build links to your website by posting and commenting on blogs and forums. Some blog owners allow you to link to your website with a dofollow link. Dofollow is the colloquial name for links that search engines will take notice of, in contrast to nofollow links. Nofollow was invented because people would pay for links to their website or spam a lot. Search engines ignore nofollow links and you get no SEO benefit. Spend some time finding blogs that allow you to link to your site? This benefits the SEO of your blog, increase your online presence and will allow you to network with your fellow bloggers with the blogosphere. Your comments ought to be genuine and relevant to the content. In most cases, writing something self-promotional (such as: "why not visit my homepage?") will not get accepted and you will have wasted time and effort. You should always try to be productive.

Social book marking tools are a good way for increasing your SEO. You should not spam your website, admins are very good at spotting spammers. But similar to directories, you will get a good inbound link from a good quality website. Well established websites have greater weight given to them by search engines. Effectively, you receive more SEO benefit from an established site than a newer site. In other words, a link from a popular online bookmark site will give your site more benefits than a smaller website.

One last tip (although there are many more) is to submit your website to online directories. They are sometimes difficult to setup but you can get a good inbound link for your website if you manage it. Many of the online directories are well established and have high page rankings. However, submitting your site to a directory can get confusing because there are usually different submission options. There are normally many different payment options. The three options are usually: paid for, free with reciprocal links and free without reciprocal links. If you can pay for links (although they can be quite costly) then you will see your website fast tracked into the directory. A free link may take months to be approved (as there is often a long waiting list for websites to be accepted). Unfortunately, reciprocal links negate the SEO benefit of the link because they are not one-way. You may find that they are useful for referral traffic but for SEO they are not useful.

If you follow the above hints and tips then you should see an improvement in your search engine rankings. However you should also definitely be using services to monitor and report your SEO efforts and Internet traffic. You will then be able to compare the impact of different strategies and areas which you need to focus on more.
