Is One Of The Yorkies For Sale In Colorado Right For You

By James Gray

Dog lovers who live in small apartments and condos have to think carefully before they buy a puppy companion. They are going to be looking for an animal that can thrive in small spaces and won't annoy the neighbors who are living on the other side of the wall, ceiling, or floor. The Yorkies for sale in Colorado are among the most suitable breeds on the planet for apartment dwellers. In addition to that, if you purchase one you'll be the proud owner of the most popular toy breed in the country.

With their silky coats, cute little topknots, bright eyes, and larger than life personalities, these puppies are a wonderful addition for the right families. They are not the dog for everybody though. If you have little kids, you do not want this tiny canine. Most responsible breeders don't sell pups from their litters to families with kids younger than six or seven.

Families who leave early in the morning and do not get home until late at night, leaving a pet unattended for the majority of the day, should find a more self-sufficient breed. Owners who don't want the responsibility of keeping a long haired dog groomed, should choose another breed. House training can be very challenging if you own a Yorkie. Most experts recommend crating them.

Yorkshires tend to be yappers, which is going to annoy your neighbors and frustrate you, unless they are trained early. You will have to teach your pet when it is okay to bark and when it is not. These terriers can be pugnacious. Most of them think they're Rottweilers and can go after strange dogs at will. They must be socialized early to avoid this problem. Yorkshires can be very particular about what they eat. They tend to have digestive issues that need the attention of a vet.

Yorkshires are known to be snappish especially when startled. They can develop separation anxiety if you leave them alone too long. These are very intuitive dogs. A Yorkie will pick up on his owner's mood and mirror it. If you're over anxious and over protective, you'll make your pup anxious and nervous.

Your Yorkie may not lose his baby teeth. If this happens you need to take him to the vet. This can become a problem, as the adult teeth try to move down, and lead to eventual tooth decay.

On the up side, you won't be spending hours outdoors exercising the puppy. Yorkshires are active dogs, but they are usually satisfied with walking about the block if they have plenty of indoor activities and playtime. These are not cold weather dogs. Overexposure can make them sick.

These are generally healthy little dogs, but like all breeds they are prone to certain conditions. You want to get the parent's health clearances from the breeder to make sure there are no genetic issues. All in all, Yorkies make wonderful pets for anyone looking for a bright, affectionate, elegant little dog.
