Steps On How To Replace Turntable Needles

Turntables are circulating rotating platforms which are found in phonographs which are also being known as gramophones or record players. Phonographs are common devices in the history which are being used for playing some sound recordings. The structure of a turntable may either be made from an inexpensive flanged steel stamping or a costlier heavy aluminum casting.

A needle is an important component of turntable because it serves as the connection between the sounds and the device. And for this reason, this must be occasionally cleaned and replaced for proper functioning. Through this article, you can learn on the basic steps on the proper replacement of the turntable needles. To properly change the needles, make sure that these steps are followed carefully for ensuring that your vinyl records or record players play a great sound.

But also, they need to take in consideration a needle housing and see to it that it will suit the cartridge type they have. There maybe some difficulties when trying to determine the needle type which is necessary for the player. In this case, search from online directories or from provided papers during your purchase.

Purchase the other supplies needed. Aside from the needles, you will also need to have the canister of compressed air and the needle nose pliers. You will be given by the store the different types or options for your compressed air, so choose among those options. In the process of replacement, a compressed air can is not very essential, but it is essential for cleaning first your recording player before you will insert the new needles.

Preparing the record player. Be sure to turn off the device before the parts will be removed. Turn off as well the speakers and its built in features like its preamp. Locate the lever function or lock from the players arm. Remove it so that the arm will be released. If the headshell or carrier is removable, try to unscrew it to access the needles easily.

Removing the old component. Lift the arm so that the old part will be exposed. Pull it out, grip and wriggle the sides gently until it becomes lose. When the component is stuck, the nose pliers will come in handy. This will be used for wriggling the component free from your cartridge. Using the compressed air, spray the needles area and make sure to clean it properly having no debris.

Insert the newly purchased needle into your cartridge. The new component surely comes with the proper instructions or directions, so follow them properly during the installation. But if there are no instructions that come with it, just simply insert it to the same place where the old one came out. Keep on holding its top and press it gently forward. Avoid on forcing it to avoid breakage and damage.

Testing the record player. Your device must be tested after all processes to test the installation. Play the device and listen carefully to the popping, snapping, and skipping sounds.
