Your Medical Billing Career And Job Growth

By Nicky Pike

Many people in 2016 fear that their job could possibly be taken away from them. A lot of companies are reporting mass layoffs and the oil industry has recently been hit as well. A lot of employees in the oil and gas industry are now seeking jobs in other industries. There is obvious a crisis going on in the world today. However, do medical billers have to fear their job is at risk? The answer to this question is yes and no. History shows that healthcare is a growing field. We have a baby boomer generation that is now beginning to seek healthcare. It is estimated that there will be around 100 million people needing senior care over the next decade.

Medical billing salaries are starting to go up if you know ICD-10 coding. If you were making $35,000 last year, you could be looking at $50,000 + dollars this year if you know how to work with ICD-10. It is important to look at yourself and ask, "What is it that I like to do? What can I do in order to make a good living for myself?" Billing is a field in which people do not understand completely. Many people are beginning to read books on the topic and express it with their co-workers that do similar types of work.

Coders are finding out that they have a skill for working with codes because they have been doing it for so long. However, when you try to do something that doesn't work, it becomes a complete disaster. It is important to move step by step into an area of your life where you want to feel better. When you turn around and look back at your job, you have to say that it's worth keeping. Most medical billing jobs have 9 to 5 schedules and healthcare benefits. It is a wonderful experience to go to work every day liking what you do. The pay is also between $35,000 to $100,000 a year. If you live in cities like New Jersey, the pay tends to be on the higher side.

If you feel that you are skilled enough to keep your job and are having trouble collecting on claims, you are not alone. Many software companies are beginning to see the need to build systems that are catered to that particular industry. This means that if you own a treatment center, you will use customized treatment for inpatient care. It would be a system that a chiropractor uses because it is almost always outpatient care. Most chiropractors see their patients at the office and then bill them.

A medical billing job is most popular in big states like New York, New Jersey and Illinois. It is important to seek a job that you feel most comfortable with. If you are like me, you probably want to see more benefits coming your way. It is important to have a lot of knowledge about coding before you get started. Finding the correct codes takes time and effort. You have to know what you are doing exactly to make something work. You cannot be good in billing if you don't know how the system works.
