Business Security: Tips To Increase Your Safety

By Mark Mahaffey

You have built your business through hard work and sacrifice. Therefore, it stands to reason that you want to learn all you can about how to protect it from burglary. Not only do you need to protect your investment, but your employees and your customers are depending on you for safety as well.

It goes without saying that every business has some vulnerability to crime. That is just the nature of the state of our country right now: crime is here to stay. However, upgrading the status of your business security is not something that has to be complicated or cost a lot of money.

It is important to evaluate your business to see where you might be at the most risk of theft. Start with the exterior of your business. Do you have good lighting? Crooks prefer dark entries, because it makes it less likely that they will be caught.

If so, then upgrade your business security by investing in some good lights. Security lighting is a great way to keep burglars away. But do not make the mistake of putting up cheap lights that can be destroyed with minimal effort. Put up strong, hard to destroy lights and put them up high.

Now think about how accessible your business is to people just wandering up. Your business security increases as the difficulty of accessing your building increases! Make it hard for people to get to your building by putting up a tall fence.

Alternatively, you can also plant a thorny hedge around your business. Hedges are effective at keeping people from approaching your business. Just be sure to put in a hedge that is very wide, so that it cannot be easily jumped over. It does not have to be very high, because a wide, thorny hedge is a great deterrant.
