Procedures For Mobile Crane Inspections

By Heidi Carver

A construction site is like a community. The difference is just that a site is mostly composed many equipment and tools. These things are always being used by its workers. But, in a site, the most important thing is the crane. If a crane is damaged, there would be delays on the construction. It is important that a crane has to be inspected if there has been problems with it.

There are a few steps for inspecting cranes. Mobile crane inspections should be done from time to time. The first step one should do is do an observation on how its operator uses it. Check if the operator has enough qualifications to use it and check for the certification of the machine.

The next procedure is checking how they set it up. See to it that it is located in a place where it is safe to operate and rotate it. Check if the attachments which are used is in accordance to the manual. It must have enough stability so it can defy being overturned with the load it will carry.

Ensure that it is not utilized in moving a load under electrical power lines. It is the most unsafe practice to do with that machine. Ensure that it is a minimum of ten feet away from those electrical power lines. All lines in the area must be visibly marked so that the operators can see it easily.

Its operators should also have the appropriate manual for using the machine. There is always an appropriate manual for it. See to it that the operators really understood what has been written on the manual. Aside from that, they should be able to apply what has been written there.

It should be inspected before use to make sure that they still have a good condition. It will help see if there is a problem on it. If there is a problem, this should immediately be reported so it will be repaired. If it will be inspected before using, they could make sure that it does not get damaged easily.

Inspect the parts of the crane to see if it has damages. Also, its wiring should be checked. If there are any damages, it should be repaired immediately. Do not forget to inspect its tires if it is properly inflated. Inspect if there are leaks of fluid or air. Its breaks and clutches should be inspected too.

When it is turned on, ask operators to raise it and lower it. This would make one sure that it is able to stop and move properly. There should also be a fire extinguisher available near the area. Everyone in the site should be able to know how to use it.

Cranes must be checked all the time. This will help prevent any damages later on. It can also prevent any unexpected accident to happen. It can help workers on the sites to keep them away from dangers caused by a damaged crane. When they are properly used and inspected, these machines can give better services on construction sites.
