Choosing The Best Insurance Policy For You

By Adrian Evans

Different people have different views on what constitutes the Best Insurance Policy. Some people believe that the best is the most affordable. Others may believe that they need to have all the cover in place for any potential eventuality. The truth is somewhere between these two extremes.

The first thing to do is to check what is covered by the standard cover. Different companies will have a different idea as to what they believe should be covered as standard. Do not assume that one company will offer the same basic package as another company or you may end up having to pay extra for things you would not have to pay extra for with another company.

However there is a difference between getting the lowest price and getting value for money. The problem is that if you go for the lowest price then you are likely to make compromises in terms of the quality of cover that you are likely to receive. Therefore you need to consider what is right for you rather than simply looking at the amount you are going to spend.

Another way to save money is to contact companies directly. Some people use the services of a broker as they believe this will save them money. While this can be true it is worth remembering that brokers and comparison sites often work by commission therefore you may be paying for that commission on top of your policy so going direct can be more affordable group insurance plan.

Some companies may offer breakdown cover as an additional extra. However you need to check what would be included in that. For example you may end up breaking down somewhere away from home. The vehicle needs to be repaired overnight and that would mean having to find accommodation which could end up being very expensive.

In order to illustrate this let us say for example that the free policy means that someone picks up your vehicle and take it to a garage to be repaired. However it may not necessarily mean that you will provided with a courtesy vehicle. Equally if you broke down in an unfamiliar area and the repairs would take a day the insurance provider may not necessarily cover any money you would need to spend on accommodation.

People often use brokers or check comparison sites in order to get a better deal. While this can be true it is important to remember that they work on commission. Therefore it is worth checking a number of sources and contacting companies directly in order to see who has the best offers.

Finally if you are trying to gauge what insurance company gives the best service then be prepared to shop around so that you get both quotes from companies and also feedback from the people who have used those companies. This is especially important if you move. One policy in Toronto may not necessarily apply elsewhere. With a smart approach you will be able to find the most suitable insurance to suit your needs.
