Virginia Police Records

By Ben Kingsley

"Men and Women in uniform" is the term used by many to address police officers and law enforcing officers. These people are responsible for keeping the state safe and order. In Virginia, these officers would roam around the state and issue Virginia Police records to individuals who are reported to be violent or with ill intentions. Such document is open to the public which means that the residents of Virginia are allowed to access the files should they have a need for it.

The residents of Virginia request for a copy of a police record when they conduct a background check. This is usually done by owners of businesses. They use it as reference whenever they randomly check on their people. They do this to know their people well and to make sure that the people they have are worthy of their trust and job position. It is not only business owners who use this document to check on people but also ordinary residents of the state. People would want to make sure that they are in a peaceful environment thus they check on the history of those they see regularly such as relatives, nannies, neighbors and friends.

As the name suggests, a police record would show information about the offenses and the crimes that the individual has committed. The document would also indicate if the person has been charged and sentenced for his crimes he has done. In cases where there are no charges filed against the individual, a police record is still made to document the incident and to include it in the individual's criminal records. The document would not be complete without the complete name of the reported person as well as the aliases he/she may have used before.

Police records of Virginia may be public documents but access to it is only given to the person himself and his/her immediate family. Those who need to access the records of other individuals should provide a special court order if not an authorization letter which is notarized. It is important that the one who requested for the record know the basic information of the file that is being requested. This can help avoid delay and can speed up the search process.

Since different government agencies issues the police report in Virginia, access to the document can be requested at the office that issued the report. However, this is only possible is the incident happened recently since all reports are submitted to the state's Public Safety Department. This is where all of the criminal records of the resident of Virginia are being archived. This should also be the place that one has to go to in order to request for a certified copy of a police record. The office accepts mail request but all of the requirements has to be enclosed in the envelope to avoid delay. One has to wait for days before the results can be sent back.

Online retrieval of police reports is now possible. Residents of Virginia prefer this search method because it is faster and easy. Employers benefit more of the online search because with this, they can make their decisions in just seconds instead of waiting for days to get the results of the search.
