Tips To Learn How To Properly Store Your Boat With St. Petersburg Marinas

By Amie Murrieta

When winter approaches, you will need to prepare to store your boat at one of the local St. Petersburg marinas. There are certain steps you need to implement to ensure that your vessel will be kept in storage safely till the next time you need to take out in the water. Consider some storage tips that you can follow.

If this is the first time you have owned a boat, you should read the user's manual first before doing anything else. This will give you a better understanding about storing your vessel for the winter. If you have lost your printed manual, you should be able to find a digital copy online.

Once you have gone through the user's guide, you will have a better inkling about the proper way to store your boat. You should leave it at a professional facility for craft storage or keep it in your garage if it is large enough. Decide where you want to store it for the winter.

When you remove your vessel from the water, you have to lift the entire thing away from the ground. Some people say that it is essential to support the hull properly to ensure that it stays secure and not prone to damage. Other areas you also need to support sufficiently are the engine, the keel, and the bulkhead.

There are special tools you can use to lift your vessel from the ground. You should use a special cradle, blocks, or a jack. Just make sure that the equipment you will use is strong enough to support the weight of your boat. Set up your jacking system before taking your vessel from the water.

Before taking your boat off the water, you should take it out for a spin one more time to determine if the vessel needs certain repairs. These maintenance tasks can be performed by some St. Petersburg marinas during off-season before you store it for the winter. You can also have it fixed after the cold season.
