Texas Arrest Records

By Ben Kingsley

Public records in the State of Texas are available from the Department of Public Safety's Computerized Criminal History System. The Conviction Database contains information including arrests in Texas, prosecutions and dispositions of cases where a person is charged with Class B or higher violation of the law. All cases that are filed in the database are updated frequently by the agencies under the State.

For a person to access the database, he or she must already have an account in the site. For those who are new, they can register a new account. Once the account is activated, the person who wants to make a research needs to purchase credits. These credits are used to pay for the search and retrieval of the searches done by the researcher. Each credit is equivalent to $3. Other statutory fees are charged to the researcher depending on the payment method that they make use of.

For those who will be paying via mailed checks, the office charges an additional $1.25 for convenience fee, bringing the total fee to $4.25. The credits are available once the checks are validated by the office. For those who would be paying via credit card, the office charges a convenience fee of 2.25% including a $.50 for transaction fee. Credits bought with credits cards are immediately available for use.

Each credit is good for one search. Ss such, it is important that researchers be able to fill in all the important details such as the person's full name and date of birth and other pertinent details. Credits are non-refundable; even a no-match result will eat up a credit from the account of the researcher. There are some reasons why the search might result in zero matches. These can include (a) misspelled name (b) incomplete information (c) restricted access and (d) not yet submitted to the database.

In some instances, the search might turn up with many results. To save up on one's credit, one can preview each of the files to look for the record that one actually wants. Do remember that once the record is opened completely, it will automatically deduct a credit from the account's balance. Some of the records might need further research done to ensure the authenticity of the report especially if there are no fingerprint records to go by. One may double check with the local agency or county that issued the report to ensure the accuracy of the details in the report.

For those who are looking for their own report or those who are looking for records, which are meant to be public, but are not available from the site, they can call the office to request other ways to obtain the information needed. Another way to do so is to check free public records search sites, which would help one in checking out the arrest search and other records easily without having to purchase credits for the records that they need.
