CNA Classes And Other Requirements

By Cathy Mercer

It takes a lot to become a certified nursing aide. It is a very big responsibility, requiring a lot of preparation. The difficulty may surprise some people, but it stems primarily from the difficulty of the training as well as the job itself, which can be very stressful, not to mention difficult. CNA classes in Houston are the best way to prepare for this life.

Before anything else, high school must be completed. Either that or a GED must be obtained. After having completed secondary education, the attention must be turned to finding an appropriate and accredited program in order to receive your training. One place that is bound to offer training is a hospital, which can be quite convenient.

Aside from hospitals, local community colleges and the Red Cross offer this training as well. Register and pay the required fee in order to begin your training. Those incapable of doing this can feel free to ask for financial aid, which is something most of these schools offer anyway. The training takes up to six weeks to twelve the most.

Keep in mind that there are a few necessities to be presented. One is a proof of the vaccinations and immunizations that the applicant has received in recent years. Another would be a criminal background check. Other requirements include a decent grasp of English in a written and verbal manner and being literate.

Prospects may also be required by a few schools to present an original SSN card. Besides that, an identification document, with a proper photo of the prospect attached to it, may also be required. Once successful, the applicant has to bring with him or her other necessities.

These items include watches, a nurse aid uniform patch, supply kit, workbook, handbook, medical scrubs that have at least two front pockets. White walking shoes that are comfortable are also needed during classes. Within every supply kit should be a stethoscope, gloves and blood pressure cuffs. It is worth noting that these prerequisites have the tendency to vary between schools.

Another thing that is worth noting is the availability of online classes, for those who wish to avail of their education this way. It is fortunate that most of these are accredited, implying that this can be a low risk move to take. However, it is very lacking in one vital aspect and that is the hands on experience. It is both mandatory for the exams and very important for your career progression in the future.

After going through all of that, it can be expected that the student now has the knowledge to perform acts like having to take vital signs, protecting patients, aiding them in their day to day activities and a lot more. It should be stressed that the instructors need to be properly qualified. Fortunately, all of then are registered nurses, thus putting to rest any doubts.

Completing any and all CNA classes in Houston is a very important achievement. Next would be the actual certification. Requirements would be at least seventy five hours of on site training, a physical exam, completion of the approved training. Lastly, there are exams and evaluations to undergo.
