Had an accident caused by faulty cycle parts? See if you can claim

By Jake Jordan

For anyone who is looking to get healthy and fit then purchasing a bicycle can be a great idea and getting started on the path to a healthier lifestyle is very easy once you have made this initial purchase. Looking carefully at the model that you want before you purchase it is important if you are in the market for a new bicycle and this means that you need to ensure it's both safe to operate and works well before you finalise your purchase.

It's not always the case that your bicycle will be in good condition and although this is something that many of us come to take for granted when making a new purchase this can unfortunately lead to a number of injuries when things go wrong. To help you from being plagued by faulty bicycle parts and potentially serious injuries there are a number of different tests that you can perform on your bike to ensure that it works efficiently before you begin using it.

There are of course areas of your bicycle that you need to be more careful about than others, for example your brakes, wheels and steering are perhaps some of the most important parts of your bicycle so you should start with examining these first. Ensuring that your brakes work properly is important before you even consider going on the road, so this should be your first priority.

It's also important that you ensure that your steering is working effectively and this helps to ensure that you are able to make evasive manoeuvres as you need - this also means that you will have the reflexes to turn your handlebars and respond to movements as you need to.

Tyres which don't leak and which are pumped up effectively are big contributors to the safety of your bicycle so it's important that you ensure this aspect of your bicycle is well-maintained for your own health and safety.
