Landscaping For Curb Appeal

By Andrew Hughes

Chances are that you will have a move at least once in your life. We are moving more often than those of a generation ago. The key is to have your home prepared with that eventuality occurs.

You want people to have a favorable impression of your home when they view it from the outside. This is called curb appeal. People will make quick judgments about the rest of your house based on what they see from the curb.

Your house could be absolutely gorgeous inside, but poor curb appeal could ruin any chances of anyone every seeing it. You must start with a good impression.

You can increase your curb appeal easily.

People see two things when they pull up to your property: the house and the landscaping. Their perception of your landscape will impact their perception of your home. Unattractive landscaping equals unattractive home in the eyes of the prospective buyer.

Your curb appeal can be drastically improved with a little landscaping. And it doesn't have to cost a lot. Your landscaping needs:

1) To appear clean.

2) Clean edges

3) Be colorful.

One of the easiest ways for landscaping for curb appeal is to use raised beds for your flowers. Plants actually do better in raised beds. Additionally, having your plants in a raised bed will really make them stand out.

Raised beds don't need to be expensive. You don't need expensive stones or build difficult retaining walls. Just outline the edge of your bed with a spade and then fill the bed with about ten inches or rich topsoil. Even without the retention borders, your bed should do just fine.

Two more things you won't need for your raised beds:

1) Plastic edging. The truth is that it's really not that attractive. It costs a lot of money and it's time-consuming to install. The beds will be fine without the borders.

2) Weed control fabric. This stuff just doesn't work. Weeds will still make it through and put down roots. It shifts and becomes unmanageable.

More potential buyers will be apt to look at your home if you improve the curb appeal landscaping.
