Stellenbosch, my favourite little tourist town

By Chelsea Hirschfield

Stellenbosch is located in the winelands of the Western Cape, and has so much to offer to those coming in and around this town. Stellenbosch has the oldest wine route in the country giving it rich history and so much to learn and enjoy. This town definitely caters for the whole family with restaurants, wine farms and great scenery. Boredom will be the furthest thing from your mind and the whole family will be entertained at all times.

Butterfly world is one of those places that is a must see when near this wonderful town. This outstanding place is covered from corner to corner with a wide range a butterflies big and small from all over the world, creating a rainbow like effect as their colours cross each other as they flutter past you without a sound. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch while watching these glorious little creatures fly about.

There are several wine farms that you could choose from to go and enjoy a day of wine tasting and fine cuisine. You can take a private tour or group tour; whichever tickles you're fancy. The tour guides are very clued up on what they are talking about and will make sure that you have nothing less than a spectacular day. The untouched scenery of the wine farms and mountains will create an unforgettable picture and a memory to last forever.

As for the dad's who enjoy playing some golf, then De Zalze Golf Course will keep you smiling for a while. It is an eighteen whole golf course that is situated in the cape winelands. The course has an exceptional mix of parkland holes with its main defenses coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals.

One of the most well known restaurants in Stellenbosch is Moyo, the theme is very African and fun, and ladies will come around and paint your face just like the people in the Swahili culture do. The tables are built in private open tree houses overlooking water features and rustic art work. Children can enjoy their time by exploring through each tree house and playing around the water features while mom and dad wind down with excellent wine and great food. So all in all, I recommend this area as a must see on your travel list.
